Nice friendly staff, Good food and very clean room with a shower. The village has no shops so realise that before booking., but very close to Donnington Park race track. Waiter service only for bar drinks which I found a little strange. Only stopped the one night but would recommend .

One village shop and if you fancy some good evening meals then Melbourne is a few miles away with plenty of restaurants to suit most budgets and tastes.
Excellent walking area and the extensive grounds of Calke Abbey and the Staunton Harold reservoir are popular with walkers.

I have been visiting the area for over 25 years now and although the traffic has worsened the countryside is still really good. and ideal for walkers. Ashby de la Zouch is not too far away for shops and for beer lovers there is plenty including the Bass Charrington brewed at nearby Burton upon Trent.

Lovely walks, everyone in the Chequers pub very friendly and lovely warm atmosphere. Our doggy was spoilt with biscuits!
The staff was a great place to stay, home cooked food and a big bed and a pleasant surprise of the quality of a dog friendly room!!
The Staff of Life in the delightful village of Ticknall exceeded our expectations. We were greeted with a warm welcome by our friendly hosts John and Jayne. The room was clean, comfortable and more than adequate for our 1 night stay. The full breakfast was excellent and served promptly. Being Sunday we had been made aware that an evening meal would not be available but our hosts were helpful in directing us to nearby amenities.
We have just come back from staying for two nights at this lovely place.
Welcomed by Jayne and shown to our beautiful room with that touch of elegance that you might normally just find in a boutique hotel.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced and him indoors said the cask ales were great too.
Thank you to Jayne and John for a lovely weekend!
A lovely village pub / hotel in a very nice situation overlooking open fields. We had a very comfortable room and enjoyed a lovely dinner with excellent friendly service. Breakfast was also very good. Large car park so no problems with the car!
A perfect place to stay if you are visiting Calke Abbey nearby and need accommodation.
Really cosy country pub in beautiful Derbyshire countryside. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and the room was spacious and very clean. Good choice of tasty pub food and exceptionally well kept real ale.
Very well located, oldy, worldly feel to the pub and the village. Nice room (though given the age of the hotel, and low beams in our room, careful if 6 foot plus!), friendly landlords and nice cooked breakfast.
