The best choice we could have made. We decided to walk the little distance from the airport enjoying the turquoise coloured waterside. The extraordinary host has treated us like kings. The bed and facilities were incredible, especially we've liked the ocean view from the outside porch. It was the most affordable and also the best of the three places we have experienced at Providencia.

It’s a paradise just like in the pictures, but it has very little infra structure for tourism and things are VERY overpriced (even considering island conditions). You pay a super high price for basically everything, from renting a bicycle, taking a taxi, to hiking to the top of the hill (~15 usd) which is a public space. We enjoyed the view of the nature, it is breathtaking, thereof we felt like in every single situation we were been charged extra for doing something. It might be good for those who enjoy scuba diving, we didn’t explore this aspect on the island.
Santa Catalina is the smaller island north of Providence. It's quieter, walking-only, and connected to the other island via a bridge. In a way, this is the prettier island, and it's got the historic fort plus pirate hideouts to the north (accessable via swimming or boat). It's got a tiny, quiet beach which is absolutely gorgeous. Both islands combined are tiny and easy to get around, so I ate on Providencia mostly, though there are cafes on Santa Catalina and I bought drinks and snacks at the shops on Santa Catalina. I liked staying on Santa Catalina and would stay there next time.
I loved the tranquility of the island and the friendliness of the people on the whole. Not a huge number of good beaches but Manzanillo and especially Southwest Bay are highly recommended. There are plenty of good places to eat: Elma’s and Martin’s in Agua Dulce and Divino Niño at Southwest Bay in particular. It’s worth going round the island in a boat but the snorkeling is not very good. Renting a motorbike is a good way of getting round the island.
This is a great little island for nature lovers. The locals are great - all bilingual. Everyone knows everyone. Ms. Portia is warm, welcoming and accommodating. Eusebio gave a great tour to the peak to watch the sunrise. Elijah gave the best massage in the most scenic location. Nick’s 5:30 boat ride to see the sunrise from Crab Cay, watch man-o-war birds, and swim at Tres Hermanos was awesome. We loved the walk through Santa Catalina with Elijah. Caribbean Place is the best restaurant. It boasts a live band. Reservation required. Everything is super affordable. I LOVE PROVIDENCIA AND THE GREAT LOCALS THERE!!!
Providence Island is absolutely gorgeous and low key. It's perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and beaching it for relaxation. The best way to get to know the island is by booking a boat tour that takes you to the surrounding islotes. For transportation throughout the island for 3 or more people is renting the boogies. Between SouthWest beach and Manzanilla Beach, I prefer Manzanilla.
We were lucky that the island was so empty, although we recognize how that hurts the reality of the locals. There is very little information online about the current state of the island, as they had to rebuild 98% of infrastructure after hurricane Iota dessimated everything. The good news is that recovery is well underway. There are plenty of restaurants and hotels, along with beautiful beaches. I highly recommend a trip to Providencia and I can hardly wait to get back. It is important to note that when we went there was only one airline company flying to Providencia (Satena) and they leave a lot to wish for. Our plane had no AC and we arrived sweating buckets and feeling quite unwell, so anyone with health problems should think twice about this visit. Also, they cancelled our flight last minute and we were forced to take and earlier flight so that we could make our connection. So I recommend leaving some room between the flight from Providencia and any subsequent connections. Other than that, the beaches are beautiful. When we went, we generally had most of them to ourselves. I highly recommend snorkeling, as the experience is life-changing. I've snorkled my whole life, but Providencia was on a whole other level. We ate at one of their more high-end restaurants (Caribbean Place) where the food was good, but over-priced. On the other hand, the food at El Divino Niño at South West Bay Beach was delicious, fresh, relatively cheap for the size and quality of their portions.
