Great place to stay.
Not far from our accomadation we had great restaurants. Vietnamese/ Thai/Greek/ Italian and Indian all on one intersection and a German Bavarian 500 mtr walk as well.
The river walk is great and we bicycled the 20km bike track along main beach and the river.

We didn’t stay in Mackay, but chose to stay at the Dolphin Heads Resort about 10kms out of Mackay. A very picturesque beach, there is an amazing old pub on the headland with the most beautiful view. We had dinner at the Resort Restaurant, and a very comfortable, quiet and enjoyable one night stay at the Resort. Well priced and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We will indeed stay there again and recommend this place to all.

We didn't plan to stay at Mackay, it was the final stop of our road trip and that's where the airport was. Airport only 10 minutes' drive from centre of Mackay, where we stayed in a motel. Plenty of restaurants nearby. The Lagoon area is lovely and very quiet on a weekday when we were there. We walked the Lagoon trail which was pleasant but much longer than anticipated as not very clear signing after you had reached the bridge over the Pioneer River. We should have just taken Sydney Rd back to town but ended up along the river and at the ocean at Iluka Park. Then another 2km into town. Great shopping centre in middle of town. We visited Cape Hillsborough and stayed three nights as it was so awesome. Trails to walk, great beach, wildlife. We saw a goanna, lots of birds, smaller skinks and of course the kangaroos at dawn. Visited Sarina Sugar Shed, which was very interesting after passing all the cane fields.

On checking in, we were given a room on level 1, with no view. The street noise was almost unbearable. We requested a change and the staff kindly moved us to a river facing room. The view was lovely, but to be honest this accommodation is sold as river frontage. It is in actual fact a block away from the River with large buildings obscuring the view. The location is perfectly central though with great accessibility to shopping. We recommend that upon booking your accommodation, to ensure what type of room you will be placed into.

I did visit a beach don't know it's name.
I did visit a beach don't know it's name. Very clean and appealing lots of trees and some birds. It was low tide and sand which I walked out on right out into the ocean. The place was busy for a city but you can get around reasonably easy. Been here before. Marina great to see. Biotanic gardens worth seeing. City centre nice to walk around. Worth coming here for a look.

Beautiful city it would be a must to have a car to get around as it very spread out or be comfortable on public transport however then you would miss out on some great beaches or lookouts a car is highly recommended.
This is one of our regular properties to stay when we work in Mackay. It's well located within Mackay and close to where we need to be. The rooms are spotlessly clean and have everything you need for a 1 or 2 night stay. The internet is great. And if you want to swim, there is a pool and a nice big open area of gardens. I always have a comfortable sleep on the beds. Overall it's a good property to stay.
Near the airport, Coral Cay was easy to get to and in an ideal location. The hotel was stunning, surrounded by palm trees and a relaxing pool. The bed was so comfy (especially after 2 days of travelling from England) and the shower was so warm with high pressure. I would definitely stay here again! Thanks for having me, especially over the Easter weekend.
Our flight was cancelled from Prosiphine airport and Mackay was the only place with availability. What a find, so glad we had the opportunity to stay a night the staff where very accommodating our room neat and tidy and the best night sleep after a long and exhausting day. And the best biggest breakfast ever. We will be back to stay longer next :)
Didn't have breakfast, but location was fantastic close to shops. airport. Staff super friendly, if we needed something nothing was a problem, in one of or rooms the aircon didn't work properly so we ended up with an upgrade at no extra charge. Would highly recommend this Motel and would stay there again on our next trip to Mackay.
Cathy the receptionist was extremely helpful. There was a misunderstanding with the room I initially booked. Cathy did everything she could to make sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. She made me feel welcomed and valued.
I will definitely choose Direct Hotel Pacific Sands again at my next Mackay visit.
The room was of good value for our budget, and nice and clean. The facility is close to the main shopping centre of Mackay, and a number of food takeaway shops. The location is safe to walk around in the evening, and has a pool to cool off, should you wish to do so? Parking is ample and safe for your vehicle.
- When I asked for more blankets they were promptly provided.
- The beds were comfortable.
- We found a lovely crepe place to eat next door, as the hotel restaurant was fully booked when we arrived.
- Loved that the room had its own washer/dryer with easy instructions.
- Big bath was great.
This place has potential so lets hope the new managers are up for the challenge to get this place back to it's former glory.
Staff were friendly.
OK value for a 2 bedroom apartment in Mackay (Glad I got a discount through booking.com though because not great value if paying full price)
The Alara is my favourite place to stay in Mackay. The rooms are always clean, neat and tidy. The staff at the front desk are always so welcoming. And the restaurant attached to the hotel is amazing! Cannot recommend this hotel enough
Property is clean and comfortable, good air condition. Has large tvs with Netflix capabilities. Great location as well close to service station and shamrock hotel. Always a first choice for us when we travel through Mackay
The hotel was located a short drive from the CBD. The room was a good size, comfortable and clean. The staff were pleasant, helpful and very friendly in that typical north Queensland fashion.
