Super cool place in the jungle. Very quiet. The houses have nets to keep the bugs out, but some bugs can get it. The staff got one big one out for use, very friendly. When the lights went out due to the power issues of the country, they had lights on battery and candles, very helpful.

We came to explore the jungle for a few days and this was the perfect relaxing place to be. The staff could not have been friendlier and breakfast was amazing! David is BEYOND amazing and was so helpful with everything we needed and made us feel so welcome!! Bungalows are super roomy as well and very clean and water was super hot in the shower! This place is a bit outside of town (about a 10 min car ride) so make sure to have a car or planned tours.

The property is outside of town in a rule area, which is great. It also has a lot of facilities, including a pool in a restaurant. The staff worked very hard to address some of our dissatisfactions, and even gave us a upgraded room on our third night, which was the first night that they could accommodate that. They provided us with a wonderful referral to a tour company that was fantastic, providing us with Private Tours into Private lands. Check out AMA tours

The staff was terrific! The arepas for breakfast were delicious. Ximena, Anderson, and Nixon were fantastic. The location was very convenient for lots of outdoor activities.
Beautiful property off the main road. Only there for one night on our way down to Cuenca. Would have liked to stay longer and enjoy the pool area. Breakfast was phenomenal! Tim also gave us invaluable information regarding our planned drive down to Cuenca which almost certainly saved us from a much longer and potentially disastrous travel day.

Tena is a very peaceful place to spend short holidays or weekends. Although you cannot expect best of the facilities, this place is really good for escaping daily routine and relaxing.
Cavernas de jumandy, puerto mishualli and Laguna azul are some of the must visit places. Transportation facilities are limited and hence it is recommended to hire a car or take your own car.
The Route from Quito to Tena goes through dense forest and hence frequent rains and landslides can be expected. Better to enquire about the route before starting the travel.

Come to Tena for the surrounding area: world-class rivers for kayaking and rafting, plus some amazing indigenous cultures and beautiful nature reserves. Tena itself feels safe and friendly and has a certain charm, but its definitely not pretty like Quito or Cuenca. The setting of the town is pretty beutiful, especially if you can get up high (like you are at Hostal Pakay) and see the valley in the afternoon/evening- the sun setting over the Andes can be pretty stunning. Overall I mostly used it as a base for kayaking, and for that, it's pretty great.
The property itself is a beautiful lodge nested in the rainforest on the edge of Tena. The rooms were comfortable and clean. I was able to do a walking yoga in the forest organized by the hotel and it was phenomenal! (Though I would recommend closed toed shoes and covered ankles.) We thoroughly enjoyed our vegetarian breakfast made at the lodge. Staff was also super flexible with our checkout time on late notice and we were so incredibly grateful. We will absolutely stay again when we return!
It was a very comfortable studio with the amenities one needs. And situated by the river to hear all the birds and animals in the morning and evening. Also, David the host was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and Ecuadorian culture and eager to share this. Definitely appreciated all the local knowledge and suggestions and how incredibly helpful he was. Muchas gracias David for everything including the chontacuro experience! We very much enjoyed our stay in Tena!
Jungle Roots is an amazing place! We loved the composting toilets and structures made of up-cycled materials. They are really committed to protecting the environment, supporting locals, and educating people about the issues that the Amazon faces. The vegan breakfasts were awesome and so tasty. Diego is an incredible host and guide. One of the best white water experiences we’ve ever had. Beds were comfortable too. Would highly recommend!
The grounds are excepcional!!!!
The rooms are small, as they should be to preserve nature. Beautiful nature lodge. Great pools, tennis courts. Wonderful for families, friends, couples, and events! The rooms are a considerable distance from parking but the staff is very helpful. The restaurant area is beautiful. This place is surrounded by wonderful nature. Thank you for the great memories in Tena.
Zumag Sisa has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It is a cosy place, ideal for backpackers, and you get to meet friends and fellow travelers while staying there. Location is great, the staff is attending to your needs, advice is given on activities around Tena. The Hostel offers value for money, and its people offer help on your journey in many ways. If I am back in Tena, I'd stay there again.

The beds are perfectly comfortable, the breakfast is incredible, everything is made with much love. The owner is very kind. The hostal feels very family-like. The location in the „jungle“ is amazing but close to Tena as well (20‘ walk). Such a great place to stay to explore the Amazonas. The owner also offers a lot of activities.
The owner David was great (and speaks English). He gave me rides into town, helped me with tour agencies, gave me tips for good restaurants. The Inn itself is modern and rooms with air conditioning! Secure, hot water, clean, large kitchen. Strongest wifi I’ve had in Ecuador. Very good value for Tena.
Beautiful cabins with an amazing breakfast. Bespoke kayak and rafting tours, which can include lessons. Was impressed with the focus on safety and fun. Absolutely perfect jungle stay. Like many places in Ecuador, full payment at the hotel is in cash or local bank transfer only.
Quick one night stay before leaving Tena, we loved hostal Pakay and felt very welcome. Easy walk into town and beautiful sounds at night considering you're on the edge of the jungle right on the edge of the city. Vegan breakfast was a treat, would love to come back. Thank you.
Everyone was very nice and accommodating at Hostal Limoncocha. We were able to leave our luggage there in between stays while traveling into the Amazon. The room was very clean and we had hot water in the shower and fans in the room. Great price.
The owners were very friendly and helpful.
They offered a very good breakfast. The room was spacy and the fan provided the necessary coolness.
Tena offers nice areas where you can enjoy nature. In the evening Tena turns into a town of lights.
Avoid this hostal . They will tell you that it’s a ‘German’ hotel or something like that but it’s full of thieves and pickpockets . Money was stolen from my bag in my room and it was clear who it was.
One of the best breakfasts we've had at a hotel, anywhere. The hosts and staff were all warm and very friendly. If you stay here, you MUST go out kayaking; Tim is a fantastic teacher and guide.
