Peggyslea Farm B & B was perfect in every way! Annette and Ailsa were warm, welcoming, genuine, and kind hosts. Our room was spacious, immaculate, and all amenities were generously provided. Of all the places we visited during a month’s travel in the UK and Scotland, breakfasts here were the best: fresh fruit, eggs collected from their chickens that morning, and jams they’d made themselves. / This is a working farm. It was delightful be able to interact with all the animals and fun to watch Ailsa train her team of Clydesdales. / We left our car at the (free) Park and Ride in a nearby village and took the bus into Edinburgh. Annette and Ailsa gave us good advice on other (less touristy) places to go and things to see as well.

The staff were very nice, and accommodating, thats about the best part. There was no hand towel, no hairdryer. I had to ask for hairdryer and he wanted me to bring it back. I said but it’s for in the morning. He said ok keep it, but first hotel without a hair dryer in the room. We had a twin room and it was cramped beyond belief. You had to turn away from the shower because it’s right next to the bed, with a mirror that can see who’s in the shower. No privacy at all from another person. The bathroom door was plywood? About 1/4” thick with magnetic closure. It was pretty quiet in room 1. Breakfast was just cereal and bread, no eggs, waffles, bacon. Just bread, canned peaches.
Not close to anything historic, had to rent a bolt driver to get us places, or take the bus.
We will never stay here again, best thing again was the staff.

Despite a 3 stars, this hotel had all the comfort we need.
The room is quite spacey.
In particular we loved the several surfaces where to lay stuff and clothes. Table, tv table, 2 bed tables, spacey closet, a chair , a poef and a couch. Surfaces are really important to store belongings while on vacation.
Special mention to the bathroom, we believe it was recently updated. The shower was amazing and big! The basin quite spacey.
The hotel was clean and comfortable .
There is no fridge in the room but that was not a problem for us.
Only 10/12 minutes walking from city center, a convenient supermarket 3 minutes walking.
Check in and check out was very fast.

Breakfast at the bar next door was quick, easy & delicious. Bed comfy. The location of Grassmarket Hotel was perfect for us to do a hop on hop off city tour bus, walking tour and all things Royal Mile. Hotel staff very helpful. Room spotless.
We ate at the hotel. The building is old which is a limiting factor despite the efforts of the staff. The highlight of our stay was a visit to Rosslyn Chapel but other than that there were none. Carlops is a very small hamlet with a population of about 80 people only. If you are travelling in East Lothian try and avoid B roads as they are pitted by potholes.
