Great place to stay for Abingdon. Have been several times. Rooms are slightly dated but everything works well and the food is great. Pub food, good beer and a cooked breakfast - what more do you want?

The Chequers at Burcot, hotel in Dorchester on thames

Located in South Oxfordshire, in the heart of the village of Burcot, The Chequers offers 9 beautifully-designed en-suite rooms, an award-winning bar and gastro pub.

Booked three rooms which included breakfast.received an email prior to check in to say because I had booked through a third party breakfast wasn't included. phoned manger who confirmed we were booked for breakfast, but she was very uproot which set the tome for our visit. Bedding not clean in one room ( they changed it once it was highlighted). Breakfast menu is very specific about choosing tea coffee OR orange juice ( which I felt was unusual, given that every other hotel I have stayed in offer orange juice as part of the breakfast). No cereal or fruit.Orders taken from menu which was well cooked and tasty but unusual not to have the option of cereal etc. Dinner was very expensive and we didn't feel value for money.

It’s a very pretty village and there are some great pubs and places to eat . It has great access to good walks by the Thame. There is a little shop which has everything you might need if visiting . The abbey is wonderful to see and often has various things going on .

Unfortunately we arrived quite late so not really able to explore the village, though we did have a walk around the grounds of the Abbey. We would have liked to visit the Astin Martin museum though found out it was actually closed on Sundays. Will definitely visit the area again, perhaps in the warmer months.

    Very interesting historic village.

Very interesting historic village. Little through traffic thanks to the bypass so quiet. Dorchester Abbey is well worth a visit. Lovely walks all around, lots of footpath signs. A 10 minute easy walk brings you to the bypass where you can catch a frequent bus service into Oxford/Wallingford, and the buses run until early morning!

It was our first visit there and we were pleasantly surprised how beautiful this village was, full of old traditional charm and quaint cottage style houses. There were a few pubs there offering a variety of food and drinks. We really enjoyed the fish platter at The George Inn as their Friday offer. We had a pleasant walk around the village and visited the Old Abbey.

The minimal staff and owner were lovely, helpful and friendly. This establishment has so much potential but needs to address staffing situation. There was a long list of staff vacancies in the toilets which clearly speaks volumes. Our room was super and clean. Great shower and tea/coffee making facilities. Comfortable bed. Beautiful location. We would go again as long as we were assured of a decent menu... and a chef!

All the basics were fine. Apparently the Chef had recently walked out so there were no evening meals available which forced us into the George Hotel just up the road where the food and service was excellent so this turned out to be a blessing in disguise It was overall reasonable value for money

A very old but well maintained hotel with themed rooms. Although the hotel was old, the rooms were modern, clean and very nice. Location was great to go for a walk, and we had a lovely breakfast in a wonderful part of the hotel.
