Sudbury is a fine looking old town with a lot that's interesting to see and some nice restaurants. Gainsborough's House was very interesting. Well worth a visit. The Lydia Turkish restaurant had great food and great service. In this premises, writer John Bunyan stayed with the family. The White Horse pub was friendly and relaxed with a menu for seniors that was very reasonable. Simon of Sudbury's skull which was cut off during the Peasant's revolt, can be seen in St Gregory's church but we didn't have time in the end to see that, as we realised too late. He was the Bishop and Chancellor who 'invented' the poll tax. Also at one time he was a Pope's assistant and an ambassador. There were music events but mostly near or during week-ends. The 753 bus near our Mill House Hotel (which had beautiful views) will take people to Lavenham and Bury St Edmunds. Bus timetables showing local stops were hard to find, even on the internet. Traffic was terrible with few safe pedestrian crossings even on the most dangerous junctions like the junction of Stour St and Gregory St which is on the A131 which runs through the town. It doesn't seem to be a town that considers pedestrians or their safety There was no taxi rank at the station and no information on where to find one. Sudbury could do with a by-pass for traffic which is just passing through and does not need to stop there.

Sudbury is a very compact town full of interesting architectural features in the centre. It's easy to walk about, although the traffic is constant and fast, so caution is needed when crossing any roads. The tourist information is easy to find and contains a lot of very helpful leaflets about things to do in and around Sudbury.

We only stayed for one night but know Sudbury because of past visits. It is a small but pleasant town with nice walks across the water meadows. But it has a great deal of traffic as it is a main route for a number of other destinations eg Bury St Edmunds, Chelmsford.

Not a great deal to offer in Sudbury but the Gainsborough museum and galleries and cafe with garden were a must if you are interested in art. It has a new wing and is spread over different buildings in the main street from the Mill hotel and is very informative with a lovely receptionist. The food in the cafe is good although we only had a snack this time. Not a lot of restaurants open in the evening so resorted to eating back at the hotel which is also worth a visit as they have a working Mill in the restaurant and bar area.
Also behind the hotel is a very good walk through the meadows with the occasional bridge and cows roam freely and even saw them drinking in the shallow part of the river.

Gainsborough's House was excellent.
The walks from the hotel across the meadows and along the old railway line were lovely
The town itself was full of lovely buildings and more shops than most small towns these days. Only a short and easy walk from the hotel

Loved the area with so many picturesque villages to visit.
Loved the area with so many picturesque villages to visit.
The history of the area is wonderful along with the artists like Constable and Gainsborough living and painting local people and landscapes
Very clean and comfortable. Host attentive but not intrusive. In an historic part of sudbury but within walking distance to centre and amenities. Road noise but got used to it and cottage inside had a peaceful vibe.
Lots of really helpful info on local area and books to read about the arear.
Lots of really nice touches and described as luxurious which I thick was a correct description. Everything was well thought out and owner seems to go out of their way to help the holiday makers enjoy their stay.
This is our third stay at The Mill. We return because it's a lovely hotel in a great setting and Sudby is a great town to visit. The Mill has very comfortable beds, a delicious breakfast and the staff are always pleasant. We have always visited in December and they do a wonderful job with the Christmas decorations, so it has a festive atmosphere. Sudbury town also has wonderful lights, some brilliant restaurants and cozy pubs. We're already looking forward to visit number 4 next year!
Room was comfortable and all that we needed as we were visiting family who live nearby, so good location. We only had breakfast one morning at the hotel as it was quite average - at the time we attended there was not much food left on the buffet, cold or hot - they had obviously been quite busy before we arrived and they were not replenishing any food. Service was poor. We chose to eat out on the other mornings instead as it was expensive for what we were offered at the hotel.
We stay at Hill Lodge when we visit a friend in Sudbury. This time we had room number 4 which was quite comfortable. Tea/Coffee facilties were available although only 3 teabags were left with just 3 sugars....probably an oversite. good shower and toilet facilities. We didn't have the breaksft as we wanted a full English and that wasn't available so we had it earlier.
Parking is good althoug if ever it was full, I'm not sure what else wouldbe available.
Nice hotel in the middle of the main street.we went for a Premium Room -room 3. We found free parking nearby and the hotel has a few spaces at the back. Nice staff. Big room. Power shower. Views of the market outside the front window in the first floor. We were attending a wedding so did not try the free basic breakfast, opting for a full English 5 doors. away.
The room was lovely
As was the heating
The staff were really friendly
Tracy made sure from the time we arrived we had everything we needed
Breakfast was lovely
Bed was comfortable, had a great fee nights sleep .
Had a few days in Sudbury to watch Grafitti Classics at the Quay.
Everything we needed was in place
Thank you Tracy and the staff
This property was very well located for the centre of Sudbury, whilst being set back from the main road so no noise. Property was very well appointed and furnished with everything you could need for a short stay (toiletries, kitchen utensils, washing equipment etc.). Property was immaculately presented, very clean and brand new.
Breakfast was very good, Terry and Lynette were amazing hosts, the property itself is full if character, if you want a Premier Inn type hotel, don't book here, if you want somewhere that feels like you are staying with friends/family, book here. Excellent location with lovely little villages a few minutes drive.
Good breakfast cooked to order and proper cafetière coffee.
Long Melford is a nice village with a lovely trail for walking/running.
Private bathroom was fine but basic, make sure you take toiletries!
Bed comfortable enough and nice linen.
Cheap!
The staff/owners of this hotel are exceptionally attentive and kind. The location of the property to the bus stops and other areas of Long Melford was perfect. Our room was clean, cozy and had recently went through some renovations in the bathroom.
Location is perfect. We'd come from Ipswich to sudbury so a close but beautiful getaway for an anniversary night. Sarah had thought about everything! She even gave us her spare pasta when we'd forgotten ours at home. Would definitely come again.
Staff were exceptionally thoughtful and could not do enough to make your stay a good experience. Parking was easy, location was walking distance to the town centre and not far to drive to see the best of constable country.
Nothing went well I turned up at the hotel on 2pm Christmas Eve and it was locked up with no sign of life. The last communication I had from Booking.com on 16th Dec was that my booking is confirmed.
Location was first class, you can walk all over Sudbury including the supermarket if you require one. LOVLEY large bathroom with both a bath and large shower. Everything we needed for a short stay.
Bed was extremely comfortable. Room very clean. Breakfast excellent and staff could not have been more helpful. Hotel right in the centre of town. All in all, exceptional in every way.
