It does what it says on the tin! Comfortable bed with nice sheets, a practical room with everything you need for a quick stay. Good shower room too. Nice lounge and bar area and a moments walk to all the service station facilities. An excellent grass area behind the building for the dogs which leads into a country walk.

We could only manage 2 nights as this was the 1st time the children had been away with us without their parents. There is so much to see and do in the area. However, the short duration is an excuse to return.
Your staff. As regular hotel guests. From five star opulence to travel lodges. We received the highest level of customer care. Amanda was incredibly helpful and considerate , this lady is absolutely in the right job. The Spa staff again so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. Your staff are on a mission to make your guests get the most from their stay at every level. Exceeded our expectations. We will be back that guaranteed. Thank you Jacky Clarke and daughter Sarah Barlow
Close to A1M though a bit farther out of York than we wanted but a straightforward 20m drive there almost direct to a car park. Could have used convenient park and ride. Lovely welcome by owners. Super interesting history, people and grounds. Lovely traditional house, room and breakfast. Hosts offered tea/coffee & cake when we arrived and when we came in the next night at 'no added charge'. It's also nice & close to Tadcaster which is great for John Smith fans!!
Breakfast disappointing... No fresh fruit, no museli, cold stewed tea, asked for a hot cup of tea and the girl brought a cup(no saucer) with hot strong tea to replace the cold one she had served me! Coffee also cold. Second morning I asked for a teapot of hot water and then added a teabag from the room.... Much better. The hotel needs to improve the breakfast. DINNER was excellent
A lovely two day stay at the Old Presbytery Guest House . Christine and Chris were wonderful hosts and helped to make our short break in Barkston Ash really enjoyable. The cooked breakfasts were superb , probably the best we’ve had in a B&B or Hotel .
We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at The Old Presbytery Guest House .
The Jackdaw owners are amazingly friendly and helpful. There were ample food supplies left ready for us which was an unexpected bonus. Great place to go if you have small kids. Tadcaster is closed on a Monday and most of Tuesday as well so expect to have to travel out of town if dinning out.
I had stayed here a couple of weeks ago and had booked again based on that experience - a somewhat quirky hotel with a lot of character and a long way from the formulaeic alternatives that are on offer at an increasingly high price.
The dinner was good and the staff were very pleasant although some were lacking experience, however given the current climate many hotels and restaurants have the same problem. The location of the hotel is lovely.
Beautiful grounds, friendly owners, nice breakfast.
Secure gate with easy parking.
Good value and much more homely than the usual travel-hotels nearby. We stayed in family room with our own travel cot.
Cosy and comfy accommodation. A great welcome and enough breakfast for double the number of people! Will definitely use the Jackdaw next time I visit family in Tadcaster
The hotel has beautiful grounds and has made clever use of the original building.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Food and wine selections were excellent
It used to be a castle so there are aspects of the property that the current hotel has not negatively influenced and is still interesting such as the graveyard.
