When I called to get the room access number I got informed I now had to download an app in order to get through the front door let alone into my room. I had very poor reception and tried saying this when I was shouted at and told if I called again the booking would be cancelled and I would t get in at all. After finally downloading an app, which required you to enter your phone unlock code every time you use it(?!), I gained access… through the first door. I entered my assigned room and the bed was unmade with sheets and towels on the floor. I didn’t want to call and complain as I needed somewhere to stay and had been aggressively warned already. Eventually the ‘host’ turned up and I was able to move to a clean room which he gave me the code to. The wrong code, and then promptly left to deal with ‘other guests’. About half an hour later I was able to finally get into my room. Accommodation is roasting hot with no airflow and very noisy.

For golfing, a perfect location. An older building but very comfortable. Coffee, tea, water and cookies in the room was a nice feature. Parking on the street was easy but things were very narrow with the traffic. The noise from the traffic was much less at night. The personnel was very helpful and friendly. Excellent food in their restaurant where I was on four evenings. A very generous breakfast taken to order.

Best Western Kings Manor in Edinburgh offers free WiFi, a 20-metre swimming pool and a gym. Portobello Beach is just 10 minutes’ walk from the building.
