We loved everything about this villa! From the warm and genuine hospitality of Vasilis and his family, to the authentic accommodation (in which every detail that a traveler might need has been thoughtfully addressed), to the delicious homemade breakfast! Archanes is a wonderful mountain town that shared with us a glimpse into the true Cretan lifestyle.

This was a beautifully restored old house right in the center of Archanes, minutes from the town square. Our room was very quiet and comfortable. Every detail was perfect. Eleni and Maria were both so kind, helping us find parking and sorting thru my mistake of showing up a day late!

With no previous research of the area we fortuitously stumbled upon the gem of Walnut Tree VIlla.
We knew we did not want to stay in Heraklion, but wanted to be close enough to visit the archaeological museum and Knossos.
What a treat to experience the charming village of Archanes and the warm hospitality of Walnut Tree Villa. Perfect for two people or two couples. The home has two bedrooms, a bathroom for each bedroom, living room and kitchen. A large courtyard with private parking ties it together.
We seemed to be the only non-locals in the neighborhood, so we always felt as though we were visiting someone’s home.
Antonis went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. From meeting us as the airport and guiding us back to offering raki and dinner our first night to having a generously stocked refrigerator and linen closet to having taxi recommendations ready. The little things make the difference and we were happy to have this be our first experience in Crete.
Featuring free bikes, Villa Fyllosia features accommodations in Archanes. This property offers access to a balcony, free private parking, and free Wifi. Outdoor dining is also possible at the villa.

Archanes Village in Crete offers an enchanting escape into the heart of Cretan culture and hospitality. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes, this village exudes charm with its cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, and warm, welcoming atmosphere.
During my stay, I was captivated by the rich history and authenticity that permeates every corner of Archanes. Exploring the village revealed hidden gems, from ancient ruins to quaint cafes serving delicious local cuisine.

Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere.
Archanes is located right in the middle of nowhere. Okay, it's quite close to Heraklion and the Palace of Knossos. But if you want to go to the beaches, you have a choice between terribly crowded beaches around Heraklion, and God forbid, Malia... probably the most disgustingly overcrowded beach we've ever seen, or the beaches on the south of the island, which are accessible through winding mountain roads that can be quite challenging to navigate with a weak engine, like the Peugeot 108 we rented.
The best option is the beaches to the west of Matala, which are a bit over an hour away via Road 97 through Heraklion, leading to Kommos Beach just west of Matala. Matala, although charming, is terribly crowded, while Kommos offers a wide expanse of pebbles with an incredible stereo effect: the sound of waves and the "singing" of cicadas. So you can spend a day at Kommos Beach, having quite a spacious area around you and only the sounds of nature, and in the evening, you can go to Matala for dinner, enjoying a charming but not as spectacular as the Polish Baltic Sea sunsets.

Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion.
Archanes is a beautiful village not far from Iraklion. It has great restaurants, beautiful scenery a well curated archaeological museum and many nearby attractions including Knossos.
We stay here each time we come to Crete as it is a really relaxed Cretan village. It is accessible by car and bus from Iraklion. Narrow laneways and hilly terrain make it a walker’s dream location.

Such a lovely property - characterful, clean and comfortable. Wished we had been there in the summer so we could have enjoyed the pool. Staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Great restaurants in the village. We ate i Agora, which we loved. Fantastic food, excellent wine (made by the owners) and extremely good value for money. Can't recommend highly enough.

My wife and I Really liked the house we stayed in the service we got and the people we interacted were just fantastic we had absolute good memory for life by staying in Archanes and I would definitely recommend it to friends and I hope to be back.,
The Villa is wonderful, just as looks at the pictures, also clean and all the facilities are in perfect condition. We had star type of traveling all over the Crete due to the wining central location of the Villa. Just sorry that we didn't have enough time to enjoy the place due to our intensive plan for this vacation. The staff is very friendly and responsive (the small problem with the lights in the kitchen was fixed immediately once communicated), thanks a lot! Highly recommend and we will be tentatively visiting again.
The hotel lies in the village of Archanes with many hiking possibilities, not far from Knossos palace. There are a lot of tavernas in town with many options to eat. The room was furnished nicely and there was everything that is needed. We liked the breakfast very much, there were a lot of different delicious things to try, both traditional Greek and european. Ladies who served breakfast were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast hall is beautiful and one can dine there as well.
On our tour of Crete (Almyrida 4 nights, Cora Sfakion 3 nights, Agia Galini 3 nights, Archanes 3 nights) the Hotol Carpe Diem was ideal because of its proximity to Knossos and Heraklion Airport. We felt very comfortable in the lovingly renovated and furnished townhouse. Because of the narrow streets in Archanes, the car should be parked a little away. On our next trip to Crete we would love to spend a few days at the Hotel Carpe Diem at the end of the trip.
We loved our stay at Villa Osteris. The location was perfect and the room was absolutely beautiful. The shared courtyard is very enchanting. All the facilities worked perfectly and the hosts were very thoughtful and attentive. When I left my powerbank in the room they emailed to let me know they found it and agreed to look after it until I could return a week later. Wonderful experience, if we are ever back in Archanes we will stay there again.
Great, spacious, and clean villa in a gorgeous location. If you dream of looking over the pool into the vineyards below, then this is the place for you. Renting a car is a must. Archanes is a great village and escape from Heraklion, but close enough for all the day trips. Some really good food and delicious bakeries in town, as well. Fofi was very helpful in helping us plan out stay. Look forward to staying again!

Archanes was a lovely traditional village in the wine country. Definitely worth a visit, and carpe diem is the perfect place to stay.
A lovely, split-level converted traditional building with lots of space and a sweet interior garden/patio area. Archanes is a great village with a lively square full of locals (nearly all men!) And the centre is an easy walk down the hill. There is a good choice of great value bars and restaurants - cheaper than the more touristsy towns. A good place to stay while visiting Knossos and Heraklion, without the crowds.
We loved our cozy apartment, the wonderful breakfasts, and pool. The beds were really comfortable and we liked being in the mountains which cool off so nicely in the evenings. Villa Archanes is in a beautiful neighborhood in a charming, authentic Crete village with great walks, restaurants, wineries, and olive farms nearby. We were in Greece for two weeks and Villa Archanes was by far my favorite place I stayed.
Breakfast was good and the location was quiet. Parking is just on the side of a building and was not enough for a couple of nights so we parked the street. Town is quiet which good restaurants within walking distance and groceries. The staff was friendly but I am not sure the hotel should be open during the holidays if the staff don't want to work during the holidays. Bed was comfortable.
Gorgeous boutique hotel. Wonderful management. Great breakfast (worth it!). Walkable to restaurants. Classic warm hospitality.
We’re poor planners and didn’t reserve any winery visits. The wonderful owner jumped on the phone and made it happen for us! Above and beyond and deeply appreciated (thank you again!)
Beautifully renovated apartment in the centre of Archanes - a friendly and authentic village. Our host was very nice and helpful. The apt had everything we needed with lots of shops, bakeries and restaurants very close. Highly recommend!
The boutique aspect of the hotel was great and it looked just like the pictures. The room we had was very spacious and had a very interesting layout which we liked a lot. The staff were friendly and gave us a lot of recommendations.
Simply excellent!!! Eirini and her mom were incredibly welcoming, including some delicious homemade sweets!
Bery cozy and comfortable room in the centre of Archanes in an amazing traditional home. Thank you Eirini!
Dream hotel, decoration makes you feel like you are in a small paradise.
The staff is professional and willing to help in all your needs, beautiful and cosy rooms for sure.
I will visit it again in the future.
Beautiful location, wonderful garden and architecture, quiet, very friendly staff. Archanes is a nice and very greek village with good restaurants, cafes etc. Knossos and Heraklion are easy to reach with car.
...that I returned after a week with my wife to enjoy the cozy feeling of this place. Also, the small town of Archanes was the best place to see Cretan life and mingle with locals.
What an amazing place this is! Away from the crowd in a small village enjoying Greece. The people of Villa Archanes are so lovely and the breakfast is a real feast.
It's an amazing house, with a great courtyard, well decorated with a welcoming and friendly host. So happy we found Troullos and the beautiful village Archanes
