Maria and Giorgos are the perfect hosts. This pension has everything you need for a comfortable stay on a budget. The place was very clean and in such a great location. The food in their restaurant is incredible too!

Great staff; great food. Good information on trails; one of the best showers in Europe.
Back-dropped by breathtaking Cretan mountains, the family-run Faragi enjoys a unique location, at the peaceful seaside village of Agia Roumeli, at the end of the famous Samaria Gorge.

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food...
Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food facilities. Ideal vacation place with small children. Sea, walking part of Samaria Gorge (from Agia Roumeli to Samaria village and back is durable with children, just take something to eat and drink with you - there are no selling points there). You can also take a walk to Agios Pavlos or (if not afraid of climbing) take a route to the medieval castle ruines ( take less steap route, partly going through a forest - less dangerous and not so hot).
During long stay we tried more than 5 restaurants and liked Faragi and Paralia the most: good meals, friendly owners; we felt almost at home at those places.

Agia Roumeli is a small village, which mainly accommodates those who visit the Samaria Gorge. Access is either by foot from the gorge or by boat from other parts of Sfakia region.
It is definitely recommended to stay in Agia Roumeli after visiting the Gorge, as it is a quite demanding hike and some time to rest and relax is much needed.
Lots of nice restaurants and cafes to choose from. People are warm and welcoming, and the Agia Roumeli beach is also lovely.

In May, after ferries leave, a very sleepy, romantic place to be in. Next day, while travellers from Samaria arrive, a bit crowdy village :-) The atmosphere is very nice, great to experience, a great spot to stay after your Samaria walk and maybe even a bit longer!

Agia Roumeli offers activities for both sea and mountain lovers, and good, Cretan food based on local products. It should thus be considered as a destination on its own and not just a transfer area after exiting the Samaria Gorge.

Wonderful town, away from the big crowds.
Wonderful town, away from the big crowds. Crystal clear blue waters with great swimming and snorkelling possibilities. 2-3 decent restaurants, which in combination with having a small supermarket and our own kitchen was ideal for up to a week.
The town is crowded only for a few hours per day when hikers come down from the gorge. Me and my partner immediately felt at home and decided to stay one more night than planned. A lovely little gem that I’d love to visit again.

The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on...
The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on, and the water is not always clean, depending on the wind direction. Agia Roumeli serves more as an exit or entrance point to Samaria Gorge, which means that most tourists are "one-time" visitors. So related services are overpriced and of poor quality.
Which is a pity, because it is a very nice village, that could be worth staying a couple more days.
Possibly the only truly family tavern in Agia Roumeli. The best part - they got rooms!
I enjoyed a delicious meal, and a sensory experience that I dreamed of for years. The silence and calmness of the evening complemented the aromas of the fresh dishes, served near the beach, at one of their few tables, the view from the room terrace. The attention and discretion of the restaurant owner, Mr. Nectarios, who offered me as a gift two small bottles - one with olive oil and one with brandy. Thank you very much!
It is a very nice guest house facing the beach in the super small village of Aglia Roumeli. The beach may not be the best one in Crete (do not forget water shoes) but if you are looking for a bit of peace and calm after the hike at the Samaria Gorge or after very busy days around the island, do not hurry for the ferry in the evening and just stay overnight! The host Nikos is very friendly and will not let you go without drinking raki :)
Everything! The new apartment-room with all details, the incredible view from the terrace restaurant, the amazing food (We ended up having breakfast, dinner and lunch), the warmth, kindness of the family running the business (father and 2 brothers; I wanted info about Samaria gorge and they helped me out on the telephone before our arrival). We had the feeling during 2 days of desconnection in a hidden paradise.
The bed is very comfortable, I’ve never seen such a clean hotel, and the staff is very accommodating. Everything was so relaxed, and the only bad thing I have to say is why no one told me that I should come for longer ;) We also had dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant and it was very fresh and delicious, there’s really no reason to go anywhere else. Also, the view from the rooms is simply priceless!
It’s right at the beach, in the center of town, beautiful taverna, cafe and guest house covered in vines and so welcoming. The room was big and perfect for our family of 4 adults (could have been 5) with a balcony and view of the water. the owner Nikos was so helpful and friendly and the dinner and breakfast were authentic Greek and delicious with lots of variety. Was hard to leave!
This was one of the best places I've ever stayed in.
Warm and friendly welcome from the host.
Excellent price.
Spacious and very well-equipped apartment, with very comfortable seats, and two balconies.
I lived Agia Roumeli, with its sandy beach, access to Samaria Gorge, and some great restaurants.
I really hope to return for a longer visit.
This hotel is a bit further out than the other properties. That means it’s much quieter and you have a beautiful view of the cliffs and the sea, and at night, the stars are crystal clear. The actual room furnishings are mostly the basics, but the owners’ kindness makes up for it. As a solo female traveler, I really felt safe and enjoyed my stay.
Right in front of the beach and in the very city center, nearby the cafes and restaurants. We stayed here after the long hike of Samaria Gorge and was everything that we needed for resting and recovering. The room had a view of the mountains and the very dramatic landscape. The owner was very helpful and friendly and gave us many precious tips.
The location is just around the corner from the port. Close to both a sandy and a pebble beach. The family operating the hotel and the restaurant were incredibly accommodating and welcoming. They speak great English among otherlanguages.
Staff of the hotel really friendly. The location is fantastic and the hotel is small but beautiful: incredible wake up with those views (good idea to take a bath at the beach beforw breakfast... it's only a 30 seconds walk)
The location was great, very close to the exit of the Samaria Gorge. The highlight was the food offered. I've recommended it already to friends even if they're not staying there. Very friendly people.
Best location in the village, nice view from the terrace and really helpfull and friendly staff. Would recommend it to everyone. Private beach in front of the hotel. Food is nice.
Over the last 20 years I always stay here everytime I visit Agia Roumeli. Also try their food for Cretan home made cooking. Your host will always make you feel at home.
Location was perfect, the rooms are simple like all rooms at Agia Roumeli. The owner is very warm and friendly and generally I would recommend a stay at this hotel.
Great location right next to the beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large, clean comfortable apartment. Agai Roumeli is a beautiful and quiet place to stay.
