The location was lovely, out of the most touristy part of Sougia but close enough to quickly drive down for a meal or to buy supplies. We were hiking the Agia Irini Gorge and it was very conventient for that.
Villa Lakki's Ori is located in Lákkoi, just 3.7 miles from Botanical Park & Gardens of Crete and 12 miles from Samaria Gorge. This villa provides a shared kitchen and free Wifi.

Stunning location, gorgeous view, friendly helpful hosts, what more can you ask for? The crisp air meant we all slept like babies during the night in the August heat wave, you're in the mountains after all, while everyone else is cooking by the beaches down below. We will definitely be back!
Located in Agia Roumeli, a 2-minute walk from Agia Roumeli Beach, Paradise features rooms with sea views and free WiFi.

Maria and Giorgos are the perfect hosts. This pension has everything you need for a comfortable stay on a budget. The place was very clean and in such a great location. The food in their restaurant is incredible too!
Most importantly the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Most importantly the staff were very friendly and helpful.
They went out of their way to help with planning our walk on the Samaria gorge hike and made us feel welcome.
We stayed just 2 nights - before the walk and after - which I highly recommend doing.
The rooms were so dark and quite and had very comfortable beds so we rested very well.
Also, we had to change our dates of the booking, which they did for us without any cost or complication - which was a big plus. Definitely recommend it as a great place to stay in that area.

Isolated and beautiful, but long (one hour) journey through fabulous scenery to get to major road interchanges. Best to explore this gorge area only and come again to see rest of island. Coastal harbours/tiny resorts at end of hairpin roads enchanting and food excellent. Walking the famous 2 gorges is for strong souls but motorists can see some grand scenery. Strolling across Omalos plain is quite magical if you like wild places and are fond of goats. Property has no internet or DVD. Bring books!

It was a surprise to see such place in Crete where you are surrounded by high mountains. It is a good thing that this small village can be reached easily by bus from Chania. There are more possibilites for having dinner and accomodation as well.

We hiked at the Samaria Gorge and an evening before we also visited “Omalos viewpoint mountain” : 2 km before Omalos if You arrive from Chania there is a concrete path (1.5km) to the top:. Actually the mountain hosts radio /TV / mobile poles. 188 m elevation was a good preparation for the Samaria hike on next day for kids.
The hike to Gigilos mountain is another option but is longer and more difficult.

The hotel is well organised and they give you an easy way to see the gorge and do the long walk. Not having air con is difficult as there are too many bugs to keep windows open at night. Lovely staff and decent food.
