Lovely small homestay run by a wonderful family, who took care of my every need (and more) as a solo female traveler. Walking distance to the bird sanctuary (a little dilapidated but worth it for the stork colony) and the lakeshore, and perfect location for walking or cycling along various canals (bikes and directions provided for free). Room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfasts were fabulous too, as well as conversations with the hosts, who built this charming "wooden castle" as a labor of love. Highly recommended!

Are we in paradise or Eden? We can imagine looking on to the waters a world without humankind other than an occasional fishing boat passing by. We turn our backs and look towards the resort designed in a U shape with an excellent integration of traditional crafted architecture.
Featuring air-conditioned accommodation with a balcony, Rajahamsam Houseboat is set in Kumarakom. There is an on-site restaurant and free private parking.

Perhaps the most scenic and idyllic CGH property, amidst the backwaters and by the lake.

The property is in a beautiful location overlooking the backwaters. Clean and spacious home with everything you need. The owner and her family are especially lovely, her youngest daughter even taught us how to catch a fish in the river. The owner can organise any tours or boat rides you want. River fish is caught in the evening and served for dinner with delicious accompaniments. Breakfast is also very good.

The evening shikara ride was great for our group and was at the right price point - 2000 rupees for 2 hours for 2 families. The bird sanctuary was a big disappointment as there is not much to see and the facilities are also very poor - of the two bird watching towers one is damaged and other does not have a great view. Not many species of birds could be seen or heard, its more of a nature walk than a bird sanctuary.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise.
As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise. As the gates shut the noise and hustle bustle of an Indian town were left outside.
The beautiful old buildings in heritage style, lovely garden with trees and the only sound that of birdsong. It didn’t end there. All the staff from Vaisakh the Manager, Amal the Chef, the lady helping in the kitchen and the lady constantly sweeping the floors and working in the garden were helpful, courteous and always had a cheerful smile. The two men were happy to enter into conversations with us when they were not busy. They also responded immediately when asked for anything.
The food was delicious and well cooked but they found it amusing that we couldn’t handle the chillis in some of the dishes.
The pool was clean and cool and very welcoming in the heat.
We spent a very happy and relaxing week at Brookside Heritage Resort and it was the best place to start our Kerala adventure after a long and arduous journey from the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in a property that gave us half-board meals (dinner and breakfast) and had in-house activities such as a sunset boat cruise and an evening cultural show. All this reinforced the kerala theme and made for a wonderful experience.

The backwaters are unique with water lilies and a wide variety of birds that can be viewed in a Shikara at dawn. A houseboat to spend the day and enjoy local cuisine served using fresh fish caught and sold by fisherwomen on the banks is a fabulous experience.

Kumarakom is a lovely back water locality, away from the hustle bustle of the city. Its a relaxing environment where you can disconnect from the busy world outside and yet if you need to get back to it, it's just nearby.
This was the best part of my Kerala trip. The place is a beautiful getaway on the bank of a tranquil scenic river. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The hostess Divya was amazing and took care of every need, starting from coffee in bed at 6 am to arranging a sunset cruise and morning shikara ride. The freshly cooked dinner on the cruise with pan fried lake fish was something special. Divya even went out of her way to make sure the taxi dropped us safely to Trivandrum, our next destination. Overall a very enjoyable and memorable stay.
Location at the lakefront was just amazing. Swimming pool is lovely & clean and not cold & what a view. The hotel has boats which you can arrange for a ride on the lake - we took an hours ride on the motorboat at sunset - this was the highlight of our stay. Room was clean, comfortable with tea & coffee making facilities. most of the staff were friendly & helpful. breakfast was nice - lots of choice European & Indian with fresh eggs and a lovely cup of tea. good value for money
- lovely view of backwaters
- free on site activities such as badminton, archery, bicycling, swimming pool
- free tea time from 4.30pm-5.30pm serving chai and some snacks like banana fritters
- location was clean, nice and quiet
- lakeroom view was spacious and very comfortable
- spa facilities available even though we did not use it.
- ability to pay for room using international card
this property has a wonderful ambience and the location is superb. The views from our room and all of the facilities is of the glorious lagoon with the lake beyond. There’s a wonderful restaurant, very nice work out facility and thriving Ayurvedic spa treatment area. There’s also a happy hour from 5 to 7 which is very good value in a lovely bar overlooking the lake.
The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and the peaceful atmosphere. It was also really well-organised, incl. transport to and from the hotels. I can definitely recommend staying at Grand Villa houseboat to anyone who seeks some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, incl. amazing food and welcoming staff!
Zuri Kumarakom provided a great vacation stay for the extended family. With 6 adults and 5 kids, all enjoyed the place alike. The staff and their hospitality is the place’s best feature. Rooms are spacious and are well equipped for a family, with all amenities. The Restaurant is great , with delicious cuisines.
Divya and her lovely family especially Minakshi her daughter really gave us true feeling of family homestay, showed us the nearby neighborhood, cooked us the best food we ate in Kerala and helped us in every possible way. We learned a lot on the place and its people.
Thanks so much, Divya and family.
Coconut Lagoon is the best place in Kumarakom to stay. Perfect location - right on the backwater. You are transported to a world of verdent greenery, blue sky, gorgeous sunsets. the cottages are beautiful. the staff is very attentive andhelpful. I can't think of a better place for a holiday.
It is a very nice property. Well maintained, green, on the lake but no boat traffic to disturb the peace of the place, just the hotel boat. Nice facility, pottery, bike, fishing. Nice room. Some have a private pool some a big jacuzzi in the room. The massage is fantastic- a must to try.
Great place to stay at in Kumarakom. Staff are friendly and kind. Rooms were clean and well serviced. Breakfast was great and included freshly watermelon juice which was lovely. Very reasonable prices, and cleanliness better than some 5 star hotels we’ve stayed at! Highly recommend.
One of the most beautiful properties I have ever been to. The best thing about this place is that they have kept the charm of this place intact with trying to over commercialize and that is brilliant. And staff was exceptionally good! We felt extremely welcomed for our entire stay!
The views from the pool and lakeside cottages are spectacular. Amazingly helpful staff.
Food was ample and good.
Room size large.
Swimming pool lovely
Excellent AC and Wi-Fi
Hotel has boats and you can hire these very reasonably for accessing the backwaters.
First of all let me tell you this is one of the best places I have stayed in. Food is amazing, View is amazing, people who like to stay at a calm and quiet place where you can enjoy the nature this is the place to go.
Incredible experience! The staff made our stay memorable. We enjoyed the cooking sessions - a chance to share experiences while talking to interesting people and learning about Kerala cuisine. Highly recommend!
everything—staff is awesome and attends to your every need, food is superb, massages top notch, and the backwaters are just lovely. I highly recommend!!!
