We stayed for one night as part of our South Iceland road...
We stayed for one night as part of our South Iceland road trip. Comfortable and clean rooms, good beds and even Netflix provided on the in-room television. We enjoyed really great food cooked in-house (both dinner and breakfast) which was delicious and authentically local. Staff were friendly, location was ideal. Access to the rooms was easy, being able to park right next to the door (useful when carrying bags in the snow).

There are many hiking trails and the staff at the visitors...
There are many hiking trails and the staff at the visitors center was very helpful. We choose a 3 hours hike - to the waterfalls and a viewpoint of the glacier. It was so beautiful! it took us closer to 4 hours but this included a long stop at the view point. You don't see that many bushes and greenery in other places in Iceland - so it was also very unique. On the way back we saw some beautiful birds that stayed with us for a little white before they disappeared into the bushes.
Be aware of the steep climbing that is required. However, all paths are well maintained and marked.
The evening dinners were very tasty! I think the best lamb dish I had in Iceland was here. There was also a good selection at breakfast.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. There was a very hospitable atmosphere to the place.
Our room was a good size and, bar the curtains, had been modernised well. There was also a sink, which was helpful as we were sharing the main bathroom facilities.
You really felt you were in the wildness, and from our window you could hear sheep and the nearby waterfall.
We had a lovely stay at Skalafell! Owned and managed by a welcoming local family, we stayed in one of the units facing the sheep meadow and loved it. Breakfasts were very nice and we had delicious dinners on two nights. The best part is that the guesthouse is located at the trailhead of a loop trail that takes you up close to one of the glaciers at Vatnajokull National Park, which we hiked one morning for an unforgettable experience!
A really lovely guesthouse, great for an overnight stay. The place was very clean and new.
The employee who was taking care of the place was really nice, showed us around and we chatted a bit about where he is from and what he is doing in Iceland.
The bathrooms were large and clean, with spacious showers where you comfortably wash and toilet in the same room.
The house is extremely clean, nicely decorated and furnished with new and beautiful pieces of furniture. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.
The host are kind, available and extremely helpful. The atmosphere in the house is lively and cozy at the same time.
The homemade breakfast is delicious and filling. Many typical Icelandic dishes available.
Well maintained guesthouse. It looked brand new when we arrived autumn 2021. The traditional corrugated iron outside suggests that the property is an old farm, but the inside is completely renovated and modern.
Very clean room
Good breakfast included
Affordable and reasonable price in expensive Iceland
Our stay at Guesthouse Skalafell was lovely! Our room was comfy and clean. The breakfast meal was delicious and plentiful. We hiked along the trails with the river on one side and cliffs on the other! Spectacular! The hosts were warm and welcoming. Easy to find. We would definitely stay here again!
Location of hotel for fun activity. In front of the the hotel is Glacier Journey tour, fantastic drive up to top of glacier in large 4 wheel jeep, at top a snowmobile ride. The family room was spacious and good value.
The hotel and staff was very nice. We had lobster bisque for starters. I had the Salmon which was very good and my partner had the pizza. Breakfast was also very good. Hot chocolate and coffee were available 24/7.
very clean and cute room. great atmosphere. restaurant was also amazing! lamb bbq is omg, cheese is sweet, burger is nice!! icelandic meal in breakfast was awesome too! lamb sausage, herring so delicious!!
We had a great stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was terrific each morning, and I liked that they had dining options in the evening.
The whole experience, location and quality of the rooms. Also, having the breakfast on the location with local produce topped it all. If returning to Iceland, definitely one of the spots to book again.
Staff very friendly and accommodating. We arrived after 10pm and they were able to provide us with dinner. Good spread for breakfast. We learnt a bit from the host about Iceland farming.
Comfy and spacious rooms, great breakfast. The hotel itself is situated in a very quiet spot just off route 1, which I found a perfect place to cool down after driving around south coast
