Amazing staff and just as equally amazing food! Such a fantastic experience. The staff went above and beyond, will definitely be coming back. Plus there is a custard pudding stand not 20ft from the premises, it’s to die for.

The interior of the hotel was created to make you feel like you were truly in the middle of the forest. I loved all of the little lounge areas and the dining room was beautiful. It was also a special treat to be greeted with a drink and snack by the fire. Staff were very helpful in calling a taxi for us to return to the station on the day of check-out.

Staying here was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Make sure to get the meal service for dinner and breakfast, it was beyond incredible. We knew enough Japanese to communicate the basics, and every staff person was incredibly kind and accommodating.

This is a great pension run by a lovely family. The husband picked us up at the bus station and drove us to the pension and also took us to the slopes in the morning. They gave us a coupon for renting gear and a map explaining the different onsen options around town. Their English is pretty limited, but they are happy to use Google translate. Also, it was not a big deal, but I think it is important for foreign guests to be aware that ski culture in Japan sort of assumes you are eating dinner at your accommodation. We did not know this and did not book dinner at the hotel. Most restaurants in town were fully booked with reservations (although there is a convenience store with good takeaway food), so try to book dinner at the hotel or make a dinner reservation somewhere well in advance. We were very luck and managed to make a reservation at the Mongolian lamb place Kasheru for the second night and that was amazing. But we saw restaurants turning people away repeatedly because everywhere in town was full. Also, the family will not pick you up by car any later that 6:45 pm (perfectly reasonable) and the public ski shuttles don't run on weekdays, so you need to pre-book a taxi if dinner will end later than that (which it probably will since most restaurants open at 6 pm). And there are not a lot of taxis and no Uber. I wish I had realized all of this up front, but that was our own ignorance and our stay was great regardless. Again, this is just the local ski culture and not the hotel's fault. It's just helpful information for future guests.

A lovely and heartwarming place to stay for a winter getaway.
The couple that owns this business made us feel like family. Mao and Qu are so kind and welcoming. They treated us like family. They picked us up from the bus station, drove us to a wonderful dinner location (which they recommended), drove us to the ski resort, and helped with all our luggage. I was so happy to meet them and talk with them.
The room is just as warm as the owners. The floors are heated and the beds are very comfortable. I wish I could’ve stayed longer.

All the meals were amazing! Wonderful local ingredients in traditional Japanese style. It was wonderful to have such a variety of foods for the kaiseki meals.
The staff was very helpful in the front and also for the meals and the room. I appreciate the care they take with everything. All staff went above and beyond - front desk was so helpful when we needed help to send our bags ahead to our next stay. The young woman serving our meals was friendly and knowledgeable it really made the stay more personal.
Our room was shared by 4 of us in traditional style with futon. The amenities in the bathrooms were great esp the skin care- highly recommend!
Regarding the hot springs- we had a private bath in our room as several of us have tattoos- water was amazing to soak in and relax after a shower. We did not use the public hot springs.

This hotel was absolutely lovely. It was clean and spacious. It was more traditional than some of the previous places and that is exactly what we were looking for. After 2 weeks in Japan, we used this location for a rest day. The Hot Spring baths and Onsen were beautiful and gorgeous. Perfect for what we were looking for. The staff also seemed to go above and beyond for us in every way.

The onsen on the roof was fantastic. Warm water and cold wind outside was wonderful. The rest of the hotel as also amazing. A nice castle nearby and a foot bath next to the hotel.
