A very unique experience, staying over-night in a silo. Ours (Nr. 2) was indeed a silo, reachable via stairs, and consisted of 2 levels. 1st level: toilet, kitchenette (fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle and 2 hobs) plus a small table with two chairs. 2nd level was bedroom and bathroom (with shower and sink). The latter were separated via clear glass panels from the bed (personally not a fan of those clear glass panels but that's me). One balcony on each level. In the morning we had a lovely view of the countryside. Some unique details and ideas were to be found throughout the silo, overall very industrial-looking which we liked. Free Wifi and free parking. There is a charger for Tesla EVs on-site but there is also a charger for other EVs (like ours) next door at the cafe. Cafe and restaurant (open Fri/Sat/Sun) close-by.
Very detailed information provided by the hosts, beforehand and in the silo - great sense of humour! Hosts also very thoughtful as 1. they left a hand-written note for us on arrival (it's self-check-in and -out) and 2. - and this was even more appreciated as it was a cold evening - the silo was warm and cozy due to them turning the heating on before our arrival!

Location was good. We were in the area to try and catch the Auroras that were happening at the time. Local beach was good but found on arriving back at the cottage that we were seeing some excellent displays from the property.
Had most things you would need to cook a meal or two. Bathrooms were good. Plenty of firewood available although as suggested, its better to put the electric heaters on overnight as the fire does go out due the rules about not being able to damp it down.
Nestled in a tranquil valley and set on 29 acres of unsurpassed rural landscapes, Kaituna Valley Homestead features free WiFi and free private parking.

The location was perfect for my 89 year old mother and I, especially the ground floor apartment. When we arrived the heaters had been turned on and the rooms were warm and cosy which we appreciated. There were plenty of pillows and bedding and the beds were comfortable. The parking space was appreciated. There was a good selection of cups and glasses. Appreciated the folder of local information, sites to see and restaurants.

Stayed in the Silos in Little River after lovely day in Akaroa. A truly unique place to stay. Walked to Little River Hotel for a drink in the evening. Very friendly and we were even given a ride back to the Silos along with other guests. Had a delicious breakfast at the Cafe and Gallery in the morning. Loved our stay in Little River :)

Great walks and cycle track along Lake Forsyth - best in early morning. Cafe and gallery definitely worth visiting. Great place to stop over at on way to Akaroa or beyond. And so convenient from Christchurch as a day trip
Different, have gone past many times and decided it would be nice to stay a night. The owner was very welcoming enjoyed our stay although there’s very little to do there. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean. Went down to the pub Little River Inn just refurbished and had an amazing meal very reasonably priced. The owner ( I think) Englishman was extremely welcoming as was his wife, the service, atmosphere and food was superb and we will be back😊😊😊
Amazing.
Perfect for our first few days in New Zealand. We were there on a couple of rainy days and all of our activities got cancelled but we didn't even mind, we just enjoyed the lovely deck and the sounds of the birds and the rain and sheep. Lovely drive up the hill just passed their driveway too. Excellent location. Has everything you could need. Fridge, microwave, washer, drying rack, BBQ on deck, loft bed. Lots of DVDs, games, books...etc.
Kaituna Valley Homestead is a beautiful, peaceful, fabulous place to stay. Yes, it’s a bit out of the way, but it’s worth the drive. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, from the rural setting to our large, comfortable room (great shower pressure) to the farm animals (highland cows!) to the stars at night to the delicious breakfasts both mornings. Sharon and John are friendly, thoughtful hosts. Highly recommend!
Location lovely, I really like Little River and have visited multiple times before, for day trips. Bed was super comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, and I really liked the environmentally friendliness of the accommodation. It was such a relaxing, if a little short visit. Spoke with Rob the morning I was leaving and he was friendly and knowledgeable.
Oh my what a glorious trip away. Marie and Rob have created a true haven tucked away in little river. The breakfast and view was sensational. The beds Uber comfy. The sheeps incredibly friendly! Our only regret was we didn’t book more nights!
Beautiful tranquil spot tucked away on a peaceful little farm. The cottage looks out over the hills of Little River, with an amazing view of the mountains and lake. The host was warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome.
Fantastic getaway. Lovely hosts. Great view and farm environment. Highly recommend. Not far from little river bike trail along lake Forsyth which is really gorgeous. Little River town is cool with a great cafe.
Great stay & very cool, quirky place.
Silos were so comfy with great shower and facilities.
We biked from Christchurch along little river trail. Would definitely do again. :)
