I ended up at the fantastic museum National Museum Machado de Castro (highly recommended) in Penela, only to drive away 2 1/2 hours later and pass by so many other beautiful and amazing buildings (part of the University) I wish I had more time to explore :)

Penela is a remote place but accessible by a good network of roads in excellent shape. It is surrounded by farmland and the "villages" are small and quiet. Restaurants exist in Penela and around. I recommend the place for a good rest.

The breakfast was good (we had bread, jam, ham, cheese, a little Joghurt and drinks), but nothing special. The hostel is in the center of Penela and we had free parking opportunities nearby.
