The Old Lyme Inn, hotel in Essex

Located off Interstate 95, this historical inn features free Wi-Fi and air-conditioned rooms with a flat-screen cable TV. Town Beach is 12 minutes’ driving distance.

We enjoyed our stay. It is quiet in the evenings unless you are in the bar with the hiking club. The price was quite a bit more than we ever pay but it was close to family and it was lovely. I almost cancelled to stay at a hotel for half the price. The drinks are not cheap in the bar. Perhaps a discount for those that are staying at the Inn. We had muffins and juice one morning and they were tasty. The staff are wonderful and outgoing. We are use to a softer bed but loved the king size room in the corner - #3. Thank you!

A beautiful old historic town worthy of a day trip.

A beautiful old historic town worthy of a day trip. Lodging is limited to 2 historic hotels, both of which are VERY expensive. We went on the River Quest evening bird watching tour, which was excellent and the main point of the trip. The lodging was all that was available in that area.

We loved this charming little village.

We loved this charming little village. We happened to be there when they held the celebration for the Burning of the Ships with Drum and Fife corps and a parade. We also booked the Essex Dinner Train and it was fabulous! Book ahead as it sells out.

I love this historic New England town.

I love this historic New England town. I come to visit every time I return to CT to see my family. Enjoyed lunch 2 days in the dining room. Staff provided great service both times. This was the first time I stayed at the Griswold Inn - checked off my bucket list - quaint New England Inn. I love seeing the town decorated for the 4th of July, enjoyed a local car show, walking distance to the CT River and other local shops and restaurants. Looking forward to returning in November.

Heading south from a trip to VT and the ME coast from Camden...

Heading south from a trip to VT and the ME coast from Camden down, I guarantee you there is not a prettier New England village than architecturally all-white Essex. Essex is like a smaller New England version of the perfect kemptness of Williamsburg. But, of course, it’s a real place, not a replica. And its location on the CT River is simply superb. A real treat for any connoisseur of 18thC and Federal New England.
