PIETY HILL:
I stayed for two nights in the “Walnut” cottage in May and found it aesthetically renovated with total functionality. It has a flawless, quiet heating and air conditioning split unit and an ample hot water supply for a long shower if desired.
The ground has plenty of shade, mature trees, and a secluded, peaceful atmosphere. I slept soundly on a thick body-conforming mattress.
The studio was spotless, and the refrigerator was already turned on, which is sometimes not the case in many hotels.
The kitchen had an electric hot water kettle and a coffee maker with coffee, tea, hot cocoa mixed with various sweeteners, half and half, and even salt/pepper grinders. The cutleries were sparse, as mentioned in other reviews, but I brought paper towels and used paper plates to minimize dishwashing volume, although dishwashing liquid is provided.
I was pleasantly surprised that it fitted perfectly with Nevada City's historical theme in a centenarian lodging but with all the modern accommodations.

This is a charming historic Gold Mining town with an abundance of artists and musicians. There is a vibrant foodie scene and breweries, shops, and galleries. It is quaint and scenic. There are lots of outdoor areas to explore as well. Close to Nevada City are other fun little tourist towns - Grass Valley, Auburn, and others. We could have spent many more days here. Looking through the county tourist guide, I noted that there are many fun activities going on in the area all year long. So I would advise people to contact the Nevada county (California) tourism bureau online and request a catalogue to plan a fun vacation. If you like music as we do, there is a Bluegrass Festival here and both Nevada City and it's adjoining town Grass Valley both have fine performing arts centers that attract great musicians from all of the country and the world!

We didn;t spend any time in the city but if the city is anything like the motel we stayed in for one night we would never go back. We spent our time in Grass Valley and it was pleasant. People were friendly and helpful. we stayed our second night at the Grass Valley Court Yard Suites. We were very pleased with the accommodations and friendly people.David - 10Scored 10
Quirky, fun Nevada City!
Quirky, fun Nevada City! So many great restaurants, bars, live music venues. We went there for a music festival. The renovated theatre in town is beautiful. The people of this city really care about their town and while there is easy access to hiking and other rural charms it is sophisticated in a way I cannot really put my finger on. It's possible to walk to Nevada City downtown in about 20 minutes or to get there by car and park on free public parking if there are spots available there. Liked the cottage is spacious: there are two separated by the door rooms - a bedroom and a living room/ dining room with a kitchenet space. Liked the balcony with a view to the forest.

The room smelled like dog poo and the people next door were smoking weed and taking drugs. We felt very unsafe. The hotel is nestled in a forest of giant trees with a half-abandoned narrow gauge railway. As my daughter said, this is a very "mysterious place". The city is just 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car.
