PIETY HILL:
I stayed for two nights in the “Walnut” cottage in May and found it aesthetically renovated with total functionality. It has a flawless, quiet heating and air conditioning split unit and an ample hot water supply for a long shower if desired.
The ground has plenty of shade, mature trees, and a secluded, peaceful atmosphere. I slept soundly on a thick body-conforming mattress.
The studio was spotless, and the refrigerator was already turned on, which is sometimes not the case in many hotels.
The kitchen had an electric hot water kettle and a coffee maker with coffee, tea, hot cocoa mixed with various sweeteners, half and half, and even salt/pepper grinders. The cutleries were sparse, as mentioned in other reviews, but I brought paper towels and used paper plates to minimize dishwashing volume, although dishwashing liquid is provided.
I was pleasantly surprised that it fitted perfectly with Nevada City's historical theme in a centenarian lodging but with all the modern accommodations.

This is a charming historic Gold Mining town with an abundance of artists and musicians. There is a vibrant foodie scene and breweries, shops, and galleries. It is quaint and scenic. There are lots of outdoor areas to explore as well. Close to Nevada City are other fun little tourist towns - Grass Valley, Auburn, and others. We could have spent many more days here. Looking through the county tourist guide, I noted that there are many fun activities going on in the area all year long. So I would advise people to contact the Nevada county (California) tourism bureau online and request a catalogue to plan a fun vacation. If you like music as we do, there is a Bluegrass Festival here and both Nevada City and it's adjoining town Grass Valley both have fine performing arts centers that attract great musicians from all of the country and the world!

We didn;t spend any time in the city but if the city is anything like the motel we stayed in for one night we would never go back. We spent our time in Grass Valley and it was pleasant. People were friendly and helpful. we stayed our second night at the Grass Valley Court Yard Suites. We were very pleased with the accommodations and friendly people.

Quirky, fun Nevada City!
Quirky, fun Nevada City! So many great restaurants, bars, live music venues. We went there for a music festival. The renovated theatre in town is beautiful. The people of this city really care about their town and while there is easy access to hiking and other rural charms it is sophisticated in a way I cannot really put my finger on. I took a close look at Pioneer Park this time and it is a large public facility with a beautiful pool and many other amenities for small town life.

Walking thru town was great and the Miners Foundry and the concert we saw there was fantastic. It is a long drive from Sacramento and would never spend the night again so in the future day trips only!
Great breakfast, with plenty of options.
The coffee was very good. There are boiled eggs, vegetarian egg scramble, toast, cereal, fruit, juices and more.
We loved the natural setting, among the trees with lots of areas to walk around and explore. It's also very close to Nevada City and great restaurants, within 10 minutes of driving.
The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a nice balcony and amazing view of the trees. We even got to see a mom and baby deer.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Stayed in Northern Queen Inn at the beginning of December to attend Victorian Christmas fair in Nevada City.
Liked the location. It's possible to walk to Nevada City downtown in about 20 minutes or to get there by car and park on free public parking if there are spots available there.
Liked the cottage is spacious: there are two separated by the door rooms - a bedroom and a living room/ dining room with a kitchenet space.
Liked the balcony with a view to the forest.
It turns out the Hotel is know for nefarious activity. We stay for less than an hour. The room smelled like dog poo and the people next door were smoking weed and taking drugs. We felt very unsafe. We told the manager we were leaving and he did not concern himself as to why we were making our departure. To ad insult to injury they changed us for the stay.
It was false advertisement there was no breakfast or coffee at the hotel I no heat the first night second night was a space heater and it was very noisy so it made it hard to sleep at night, not to mention mold and how dirty it was And nasty smell in the room, mold and coffee grounds in the coffee maker. I am lucky I did not get sick from the mold.
I was tired when i booked the room an was unaware it was a BNB, it was a nice surprise and even though i worked very late and showed up late the owner was very accomodating to me showing up late. The room was incredibly comfortable. probably the best slepe i have had at a hotel and i stay at a lot of hotels.
+The decorations throughout the house
+the creek and the sound of running water is soothing and very inducive to sleep
+the garden space looks nice and comfortable, without rain, we could have spent more time in it
+the host is super nice and responsive
+the breakfast is beautifully laid out
We took a cabin for 4 people. It was quite spacious and well equipped. The hotel is nestled in a forest of giant trees with a half-abandoned narrow gauge railway. As my daughter said, this is a very "mysterious place". The city is just 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car.
The Two Room Inn was charming. The stained glass windows were beautiful. The location was fantastic...couldn't have been any better to see downtown Nevada City. There are 2 lovely patios. The size of the property was perfect for 2 couples. Fully equipped.
Very cozy it is byfar the cutest family hotel..the room is very comfy, me and my son felt safe and rested well, nice and quiet. Everything was pwrfect..just as I expected apon our arrival..I would definitely recommend piety hill cottages to everyone.....
Beautifully renovated old historic building. We had stayed here in the "old days" and found the new hotel charming, beautifully decorated and, as before, in a perfect location to explore Nevada City. The restaurant is great too!
It's an amazing hotel. Very comfortable and great decor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Pasquale in the restaurant was excellent, as were the staff on reception who went out of their way to help me on a problem I had.
The room was comfortable enough other than the outside appearance. I believe the outside of the building was being remodelled. The hotel is situated close to the highway 49 ramp so getting about was very easy.
The morning breakfast is phenomenal! The free cookies are also really really good!
Parking is behind the B&B and the location is the best! Next to the Nevada City Theatre for concerts and all restaurants!
Converted Victorian house, the owners of the Inn were nice. The bed was comfortable. There is a nice patio and coffee and snacks. The location, if you are visiting the town of Nevada City, is excellent.
