We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
We were gonna stay here for a night, but ended up staying two! Such a peaceful and relaxing place. My boyfriend got foodpoisoned before we got there, and Patrick was so caring and helpful! He made breakfast personally for each person staying there too. Patrick has two dogs wich were so cute and loving! Always happy and ready for cuddles! We would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Swellendam In the area there is also a couple of really good restaurants. Check out Field and fork. Thank you for having us, Patrick!
The Farm has soo many animals, our daughter loved the chicken, sheep, rabbits, pigs, horses... And of course the more wild animals like wilderbeast, springbok - and the giraffes! We could sit outside and watch the walk around the huge area.
The apartment was nice, clean and had everything we needed for one night.
Willie was very kind and let us harvest some carrots and strawberries. Can definitely recommend, especially when you're traveling with kids.
This self catering house has everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The house is well maintained with a private swimming pool and braai area.
We were kept up to date before arrival on anything we needed to know.
They had an issue with some of the plugs and stove tripping, but we were quickly sorted out with a complementory
lunch, and a new counter top plate for cooking by the next morning. Very good service, with friendly people.
Our two days at Brackenhills was not long enough. We LOVED everything about it. The mountain scenery is unbelievably beautiful, the accommodation is charming and so comfortable. The outdoor kitchen and dining area was an absolute hit as was our outdoor bathroom. The hosts, Andrew, Hilary and Sasha, are so welcoming and warm. This stay was the highlight of our Dec / Jan road trip. We will definitely be back soon.
Super lovely people that run this place with passion! The accommodation was spacious, cozy and well equipped and staying on a Berry Farm is something special. We enjoyed the Tastings and possibility to purchase some of the jams, liquors and mustard that are made here. Also the surrounding landscape and scenery made us very happy guests. Thanks!
The house is beautiful and the living areas are spacious. The beds were very comfortable and all had electric blankets. There is also large fireplace that was great on the cold nights. There are hikes into the nature reserve directly from the farm. We really enjoyed our stay and the kids especially enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm.
Perfect stay.
We only stayed one night, but the staff and the guest house made it a perfect experience. We thought, Swellendam was only a „passing through“ city, but the hotel is actually so nice, it makes sense to stay longer and discover the area a bit. Staff was very welcoming and supportive to our family of four.
Great location we found on our way back to Cape Town, we found this place to be perfect for us as it is quite and clean with the farm charm.
Enjoyed seeing animals (Horses, sheep, donkeys, & dogs) and a berry/jam/liqueur farm and tasting room nearby.
Stargazing at night was a wonderful experience.
Room was very nice with everything required for self catering. Clean, with decent shower, toilet & vanity. Nice kitchen with fridge and wash basin, etc. Outdoor Braam area should you have required it. Staff were helpful with suggestions of restaurants to eat at and places to visit.
Excellent stay in Swellendam, little bit off city center, so very calm and relaxed area. Very friendly hosts, good recommendations for restaurants and things to do around. Exceptionally well-kept property with beautiful, spacious accommodation, modern and functionally furnished.
The owner was very friendly and welcoming. It's in a very clean and quiet area close to town. The room was so spacious and with an extra bed and the kitchen have everything I needed from microwave, fridge, stove, cutlery and to top it up they had a washing machine for my laundry
Perfect location in beautiful area, overlooking the mountains. The hosts were wonderful. They provided helpful info on tourist destinations and things to do in the area. The property was close to all the museums and restaurants in Swellendam's golden mile.
Amazing Victorian house, well organized and maintained. the family that own the hotel really nice and must say that the breakfast was delicious! we didn’t eat dinner there but it looks pretty good as well.
We loved the quietness and stillness of the area and the hotel. Very close to Swellendam town incase needed. The quality of food at Just Amy was amazing and the menu prices (food and drink) we really good.
Beautiful location in a farm, at the foot of the Langberg mountains. Very isolated. Swellendam with nice restaurants is only 3 km away. Perfect stopover on our way back to Cape Town
The hotel consists of detach cottages (chalet). The cottages are super clean, well ventilated and kept us worn the winter . The host is very cooperative ABD friendly
The guesthouse and grounds are beautiful and well located in Swellendam. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning. We appreciated the complimentary car wash.
