This guesthouse offers breakfast and dinner. The chef/owner possesses advanced cooking skills and uses local ingredients including goat cheese made onsite. Guests feel as if they are dining in a high end restaurant. The hosts wholeheartedly look after guests, are open to sharing experiences and entertain without intrusion. Despite our late arrival, they provided a warm welcome and delicious dinner.

I was lucky to have the place to myself. Location was great. Nakamura San recommended a nice restaurant nearby called Ichiyoshi. Staff isn’t on site but I was ok with that.

The private house was right on the Kumano.
We stayed only one night but wish it was longer.
Shino is the perfect host! After eating breakfast at her cafe, we went to board the bus across the street. I completely forgot my bag. Shino made sure I got it back! She had the bus company flag down the bus we were on and delivered it to me.
Her homemade meals and warm accommodations will not be forgotten any time soon!!

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.

A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage.
The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki.
Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Cannot rate their quality of service highly enough.
A lovely, comfortable, clean, and cozy place in great location when walking the kumano kodo-
The beds are comfortable, the shower has good strong and warm water pressure. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed. Surrounded by rice fields and the lovely village. The owner is a great cook, her food was delicious. She was very kind and helpful.
This is an excellent private room / guest house prior to starting your Kumano Kodo. Quick walk to and from the train station / tourist agency. Plenty of restaurants abound in the near area, but make reservations! Air conditioning worked like a charm in late July with high humidity. The 2nd story balcony / porch was great for hanging my clothes out to dry.
The hotel is really comfortable, our room had a kotatsu in it. A mexican restaurant is part of the hotel. You can relax, eat and drink there (it stays open until late). The hotel provides sandals for you to walk to the onsen on the river.
The location is great (near bus stations).
The owners are the best, super kind and welcoming.
Thank you very much!
The hostess was very nice and accommodating. It a shared bathroom and shower facilities. It was nice that there was microwave to warm up food should we need it. The location was very convenient since it was close to the JR train station. We had to catch a bus to Kii Takajiri for our Kumano Kodo hike the next morning. , a pleasant experience.
The host was fantastic. They picked us up from the bus station when we arrived. We stayed here for the night before hiking the kumano kodo and in the morning the host also drove us to the trailhead to start our journey. The room was spacious and had all the necessities. The hosts live on the property as well, but the room felt very private.
A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!
Mr Hiroki and his wife are so warm and welcoming. They kept in close contact with me upon arrival at Tanabe and when came to pick me up to their guest house. Naoko puts her heart into preparing all the meals and its so delicious!
I really enjoyed the one night I had there as a chance to feel relaxed in a lovely traditional Japanese home. Tanabe seemed like a cool town too. The owner pointed out some good dinner options which didn't disappoint either!
The hosts were fantastic! I highly recommend taking them up on dinner and breakfast as well as box lunch. The host was very gracious and drove us to the hiking trail head for the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail in the morning.
Wonderful to receive such a warm welcome after travelling for many hours. Short walk from train station and close to beach. Chiffon cake was lovely to have for breakfast the next day. Great place to stay before Kumano Kodo.
Very nice location, nice view over the valley and distant sea. The owner picked us up at Tanabe and dropped us of at the Kumano information center the next day, which helped us a lot! He was very helpful and communicative!
excellent location. literally 2minutes walk from kii tanabe station. this makes it super convenient for those planning to catch early bus to the starting point of the kumano trail.
The owner is incredible - so much local knowledge and Tanabe beach is beautiful. Also listen to the owner’s restaurant recommendations as the one I ate at was lovely.
The place is right on the Kumano Kodo trail, the staff was very helpful and even drove us to a restaurant to have dinner. The bed was very comfortable.
