First trip to the Channel Islands. St Helier was lovely.Something for everyone from Boating, beach, ships, restaurants and history. Clean, everything easily accessible by walking. Buses modern and reliable for going further a field.
Lovely town to visit. Great bus service. Lots to see and do. St Helier is ideal for a getaway, relaxing holiday, sightseeing, with options of day ferries to other Channel Islands.
We were visiting St Helier for the annual Jersey Air Show in September. Our stay was only two days so unable to get around the island on this occasion. We stayed close to St Helier and in good walking distance of the shops, Esplanade and local restaurants. Having visited Jersey on a number of occasions over the past 40 years, the Channel Islands are like stepping back in time ...as very little changes from year to year but that is what is so endearing and adds to the charm. A car is ideal and driving around the island is very easy. However, the bus service is excellent should you not wish to drive. There are also several coach companies giving extensive tours. Lots to see and enjoy in Jersey but ample opportunity to visit the other islands too, or even take a trip over to France, all are in easy distance to Jersey. If you have not been, I would highly recommend a visit to this lovely island.
You can choose between sandy beaches on this coastline or lovely rocky cliff walks on the other side, just twenty minutes away. Thats the beauty of these channel islands. Recommend.
The first thing that I want to say is that probably January is not the best time to travel to the Channel Islands but we can find a different quiet and wild landscape. The city is really well thought for tourism and the best way is getting information from the Information Point that was extremely helpful. The bussines are run for people that really believe in a good costumer service and the good on the restaurant is made with responsibility and love. Landscape is breathtaking and really is and adorable place to come any time of the year!!!!!
our trip in Jersey Channel Islands first arrived in st helier port in Jersey stopped by customs asked as if we have drugs or weapons and we said no and they searched our hand back they did not fund nothing, I said don't have anything illegal why you stopped as he says i can stop anyone I want, he called 2 airport police and they asked as lots of stupid questions, questions 1 how did you know about jersey 2 how did you find jersey 3 why like come to jersey 4 when did you decide come to jersey 5 which part of jersey you like 6 what you find about jersey, they asked so mony more funny questions for tow hours, after all all they said because we kept you for tow hours we have to put in notice examination terrorism Jersey low 2002, but I don't blame them they never been out of their small islands, and they don't seen many people go for holiday to their small islands.
Saint Helier is a delightful busy centre containing all the UK recognised shops, taking UK currency and with staff who speak English. However, unlike many parts of the UK is is spotless, no chewing-gum stained streets or graffiti. The local people are friendly and helpful. The city contained a variety of interesting buildings and offered an insight into the history of the Channel Islands. St Helier is an ideal base from which to tour the island using the extensive local bus service with a flat rate of £2 per trip. You can also buy a travel card which offers even better value if making several trips during your stay. The bus drivers were extremely helpful in advising of local points of interest. The buses can take you to quiet sandy beaches, which in April were deserted, or to glorious pebble beaches, small fishing harbours or out into Jersey cow country and the lush fields of Jersey Royals. Most of the bays contained small and not-so-small cafes/restaurants and were extremely picturesque with an absence of high-rise apartments. Even the smallest towns and bays housed public toilets (free of charge) and beautifully maintained with automatic hand-washing/drying facilities. Signage across the island was good. There is a strong emphasis in preserving the historical heritage of the island and the islanders are justifiably proud of safeguarding their traditions without over-exploitation.
St Helier is a great place to stay. It is an ideal central location with great public transport routes to the rest of the island. The bus service is regular and at only £2 per person per journey it is very cost effective. We caught the number 15 bus both to and from the airport which was much cheaper than a private transfer. There are numerous shops, bars, restaurants - too many to chose from ! Also very convenient to get to France or the other Channel Islands. We went to St Malo which was a great day out. Overall a lovely place to stay. Would recommend.
The seafood is the best reason for visiting the Channel Islands. Lobster, crab, scallops, prawns, oysters and more. The best restaurant was Le Nautique on the harbour front. Beautiful town built on the hillside looking down on the harbour and marinas, and across to the islands of Herm and Sark. Great walks, and a frequent bus service around the island made it easy to get about without a car.
I found St. Helier to be very built up and not very pedestrian friendly (apart from the main shopping street, which was pedestrianised). If one tried to walk from the marina to the beach you either had to walk along a busy dual carriageway or go through a busy car park which had no pedestrian exit to the beach. The waterfront in the main area had been consumed by a cinema complex of the kind usually found in out of town shopping centres, which although probably popular seemed banal and disheartening, and blocked the view of the sea and any route to the beach. Altogether there was a lot of traffic and many one way systems, which made it difficult to cross the roads. I found it to be very different to the other channel Islands. The pedestrianised squares in town were very pretty however, and there were many nice sculptures in them. The shops were standard high street types - not many independent retailers except in the market square, which was also very pretty and pleasant. I ate at a Bella Italia, which was average compared to other Bella Italias I have been to.
Pick you room wisly and you can get a room with a fantastic view not obtainable in any other hotel on the Island. The locaiton is an easy but steep walk to the harbor and is perfect for thoese whishing to book excersions to the other Channel Islands
Excellent gym and pool, convenient location - walk into town. Excellent staff

I loved the hotel, location, staff, room. After being in St Helier, I was so happy to be St Brelade: the slow pace, the beach, the people, environment. Ioved this island! So glad it found me. I did not expect such a wonderful place.

Exceptional staff. Comfortable, beautiful room. Gorgeous views. Luke went above and beyond in his service.
Lost my phone while in a rush to the airport and the staff was very helpful and got it back on my return. They even called when they found it.
