I had a fantastic stay at Gilesgate Moor Hotel. Graham & Wendy were fantastic hosts. Very friendly and accommodating. Graham gave me a great tip regarding a lovely walk back into Durham through the countryside that met up with the riverside walk into town. The breakfasts were fantastic, pot of tea, orange juice, brown toast, porridge and full fry. A plate of scrambled eggs and a late check out from a clean, comfortable room on the Sat morning before I ran the Durham parkrun was really appreciated.

Very welcoming at reception, found room to be clean, spacious and double bed very comfortable. Main road runs past our room and we didn't have any noise disturbance and had a great nights sleep. I enjoy leaving the car at home and this hotel is on a bus route between Durham and Bishop Auckland. The X21 bus goes through Durham to Chester le Street and Newcastle. Would have liked to dine at the adjoining Indian Restaurant but didn't get the opportunity on this occasion.

Stunning cottage/apartment set in the grounds of the English Heritage Finchale Abbey on the edge of the river Wear. After all the holiday maker go home it’s like a private country estate. The accommodation is so comfortable and enormous and the staff delightful and so friendly and helpful. There is nothing not to like really. perfect for country relaxation, yet close access to Durham.

Adele and Geoff are the perfect hosts, having restored, renovated and enhanced this impressive 19th century manor house. A perfect base for visits to Durham and the heritage North East Coast. We had an enormous ensuite room with a magnificent sea view. Adele even suggested places of interest for our journey home. We would have no hesitation in recommending the White House Hotel.

Perfect location for those who visit Durham for conferences at the University campus as well as for tourism. Nice room, the Victoria Inn pub on the ground floor is nice for drinks (if your room is on the first floor you'll hear some talks and laughter, especially during the weekends, but pubs in the UK close rather early so that was not an issue for me).

James met us at the location and helped us with parking. We were unsure if our pick-up truck would fit int he carpark, as I know Durham is old and can be tight for space, but yes it fitted. A wonderful apartment, well equipped and a lovely surprise from our host waiting there on ice! A fantastic location and very comfortable.

The location was beautiful, it overlooks fields, is very quiet and a short drive to park and ride for Durham. We were upgraded to a modern newly built apartment that was very spacious and comfortable for a 5 night stay and were amazed at the scale of this property it being a combination of old renovated cottages and new builds.

Perfect location for where we wished to visit, warm and comfortable, lovely host Maxine who greeted us on arrival, and much appreciated welcome pack. Enjoyed the little patio/garden. Park and ride brilliant for centre of Durham just five minutes from apartment. Don't forget to visit Hall Hill Farm.

The room was good, clean and had all the facilities we required. The breakfast was superb, both the fully cooked choice and the continental offering. Everything was fresh and freshly cooked. The location of the hotel was central for our visits within Durham - university, river, shopping, famous sites.

the morning staff was amazing. They went above and beyond to take care of us. Kept our bed changed, kept a us in clean towels, and changing out the trash. Close to Durham University campus. We arrived a bit before 1400 and our room was ready. Self-check in was very easy. Oh and the mattress was great.

Quiet location good base for travelling around this area. 3 days visited Durham, Angel of the north. Newcastle waterfront and Liang art gallery. South Shields beach. Hartlepool and various beaches near the Hotel. Food was good, bed comfortable and the weather was ok. All in all a great holiday.

5 of us stayed here for the second time after a family funerals in Durham. Staff couldn't have been nicer and looked after us well. Organised a table for us in the evening where we could sit with other family members who were not staying there. Hotel clean, comfortable and lovely breakfasts.

Location was perfect, within walking distance of Durham City centre. Free on-site parking was very much appreciated. Overall, the hotel was well decorated and very warm and comfortable. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Friendly staff, nice clean rooms....lovely breakfast. Beautiful views. 10 minutes away from Beamish museum. Hotel based in the middle of Durham and Newcastle city Centre distance wise.....30 minutes each way.

We had a lovely attic room & the lady who run the place couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. A boss place to stay right in the heart of Durham. Would definitely recommend The City Hotel 🥳

Excellent apartment set in such a beautiful location right in the centre of Durham. The apartment itself was clean, modern and full of personal touches. I would definitely stay here again!
