I felt safe. We were able to leave our bags here after checkout and explore the city before our next trip. It seems the hotel is not from a chain, and therefore there is a more "homey" vibe. Enioyed the chandelier and the many many plants.

The natural starting point for any visit to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. We did not have time to see a lot of the city, even with three nights there before our Inca trail. Registration and briefing for the Inca trail and doing a half-day tour to the Salinas salt mines and Moray, left only a few hours for sightseeing. We strolled down some streets in downtown Cusco, among a myriad of honking cars (that will never ever stop for a crossing pedestrian even if you have a green light) and beautiful, old buildings. Give yourself at least three nights on this altitude before doing the Inca trail, and add more days if you want to see more than the city itself. Avoid tourist restaurants (inflated prices and mediocre food) and to one of these two options instead: 1) the city market includes a range of food stalls that at least are open around lunch time. Ask the price before you order. We paid 6 soles (less than 2 USD) for a big plate of fried rice, cooked banana, sausages, a fried egg, French fries and a salad - wonderfully delicious. The market hall is full of people and life. Just sit down on one of the food stall benches, eat and enjoy Peruvian life. 2) Leave the main touristy streets, enter a more quiet street at random and find a small, local restaurant. They are often very simple (fast food looking) and some don't offer many options, but you get great food (and a lot of it) for very little money). The standard plate is 1/8 or 1/4 chicken (ask for the part you want: pierna = leg, pechuga = breast), rice and salad. You will usually be given a salad and some local salsas, and sometimes a soup as well, even if none of these things are listed on the menu. The market is also a fantastic place to find gorgeous, cheap and good-quality items made of alpaca, such as sweaters, blankets, gloves, hats, scarves and more. There are a myriad of stalls both inside and outside the market building. Ask your hotel where the market is.

The location of the hotel was perfect: We were able to walk all over the town and to get to our final destination seamlessly! The taxi service war phenomenal. It was already waiting for us at the airport, and it was at 4:30 p.m. sharp when it was time to leave. We had a very relaxing stay- we had planned for one night, but extended it to two nights as we enjoyed the property so much The rooms/cabins are very large/ Nice bathrooms and beds with patios We ate all of our meals there and enjoyed all of them (I am vegetarian and liked all of my options/ my husband who is not vegetarian also equally enjoyed the meals) They have a few activities each day, we enjoyed a short hike and learned about the local community, plants and birds In the afternoon, they have a nice tea time with small snacks- For planning- it takes 1.5 hours from the airport/ plan a ride in advance- it is about $50 for a couple from Cusco The local area has a few popular tourist places to visit though we did not take advantage of these as we just enjoyed staying there The Sacred Valley was an adjustment in altitude for us (we are from Nebraska) and it was nice to acclimate there, before staying in Cusco and ultimately hiking the Salkantay trail.
